Early Learning Center
Goals
Martha O'Bryan Center's 3 star rated Early Learning Center program is designed to provide a safe, healthy, anti-biased and multi-cultural environment for growth and learning where pro-social, socio-emotional, physical, cognitive and lingual skills are developed through natural nurturing and developmentally appropriate teaching practices. We strive to create a culture of kindness for children, families and staff. It is our goal to create a comprehensive program for families living in east Nashville that provides: opportunities for growth and enrichment across all developmental stages aof children and families through enhanced staff development and parental involvement; community building; and coordination of additional supportive and transitional services through collaboration with other agencies.
Curriculum
We use the High/Scope framework as part of our curriculum which is designed to achieve long term goals for children in all domains: social, cognitive and physical. Additionally we use DLM which is a literacy based curriculum which introduces pre-reading and writing skills to our children. Children, parents and teachers are taught conflict resolution skills.
Assessment
Our children are assessed three times a year with a tool that covers all stages of development. Parents are offered three parent/teacher conferences and six workshops a year. Additionally they are encouraged to come in and volunteer in their child's classroom so they will be comfortable going into the public school setting and becoming advocates for their children.
