Community Outreach
A family who has difficulty putting food on the table or meeting immediate needs cannot focus on the long-term goals of becoming self-sufficient. Community Services of Martha O’Bryan Center was established to assist families in overcoming basic obstacles to self-sufficiency by providing emergency services or temporary solutions.
Community Services assists families with budget planning, income tax preparation and case management, and also delivers Welcome Baskets full of household items and community information to new Cayce residents. Other outreach programs provided by Community Services are:
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels relies upon volunteers to deliver 100+ hot meals each weekday to disabled or elderly adults. The meal helps these adults to live independently even though they may not have family support or daily access to care providers. Living independently is a tremendous boost to a person’s self-esteem, helping them to maintain their daily routine, but it also has economic benefits to the person and to the community. Taxpayers and the state save $27,000 for each person that this program can keep in their homes and not move to an assisted living facility. Not only is Meals on Wheels important for nutrition, it assures the client has day-to-day contact with a friendly face.
Emergency Food Bank
Martha O'Bryan Center, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Nashville's Table collaborate to run one of the city's largest emergency food distribution points. Eligible participants who are unable to purchase food can receive a three- to five-day supply of food, which is often enough to feed them and their family through an emergency period. Customers may receive two orders every three months. Most importantly, this program also serves to find families who have the greatest need. Repeat visits to the food bank demonstrate great challenges that must be met and our staff can easily make referrals to the Cayce Family Resource Center to get them the help they need while still serving their immediate need of food.
Toys & More Store
Martha O'Bryan Center's Christmas assistance program, Toys & More Store, gives parents a chance to purchase new toys at very low prices for their children. By allowing parents to buy toys instead of taking them for free, parents take more pride in holidays and feel like they are taking greater strides toward total self-sufficiency.
Joyful Noise Worship Service
In its second year, Joyful Noise Worship Service is an outreach of Martha O'Bryan Center created by a collaboration of neighborhood residents and several community partners. Click here to learn more about the bi-weekly event.
