Music City Chef Throwdown will be held June 14, 2018 with some of the top chefs in town and a goal to raise $10,000 for Martha O’Bryan Center. Capital Financial Group has pledged their support of the event, and in turn, of the Martha O’Bryan Center and improving the lives of more than 10,000 children, youth, and families throughout Nashville each year.

March 28, 2018, Nashville, Tenn. – Capital Financial Group has pledged $5,000 toward the Music City Chef Throwdown benefiting the Martha O’Bryan Center, making them the top sponsor for the event to date. Music City Chef Throwdown is an event from NextUP - Martha O’Bryan Center Ambassadors where local chefs making an impact on Nashville’s culinary scene go head-to-head and showcase how an amazing meal can be made with the simplest of ingredients. Local food experts will choose a champion and guests will choose their favorite.

The sponsorship from Capital Financial Group shows their commitment to the betterment of Tennessee communities through their support of those who need it most. Capital Financial Group has been around since 1985, growing to have more than 140 financial professionals and 50 staff employees to serve clients in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi as part of the MassMutual System.

Voted as Nashville Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work Winner” six separate times, their work with charitable organizations such as the Martha O’Bryan Center shows their compassion for the community. They also show that compassion through their work with their clients, using their expertise, knowledge, resources, and tools to empower their clients to make the best financial decisions for their family and their business. Their sponsorship will go a long way in helping the mission of the Martha O’Bryan Center.

Martha O'Bryan Center is located in East Nashville, in the heart of Cayce Place, less than a mile from downtown Nashville, an area comprised of luxury condos, thriving businesses, and state government offices.

The average household income for families in Cayce Place is $7,494, 70% below the national poverty threshold for a family of four. 90% of households are headed by a single woman; 59% of residents are under the age of 18.

Martha O'Bryan Center programs strategically work together to build upward mobility, resiliency, and well-being within families.

The Martha O’Bryan Center focuses on education. There is a line between a wealth of opportunities and a poverty of choices. Martha O'Bryan Center's goal is to break that line. We believe poverty is highly complex and requires the integration of programs, partners, families, youth, and community working together to break the line between poverty and potential.

In its fourth year, formerly known as Foodbank Throwdown, Music City Chef Throwdown is unique from other food competitions: chefs from restaurants such as Sinema, The Grilled Cheeserie, Saint Añjeo, and many others, receive a list of low-cost, widely available ingredients to create their dish, and cook against the clock to present their meals to the judges, live. Judges, led by local food expert and writer Chris Chamberlain, will choose the 2018 Throwdown Champion, while our guests choose their favorite as the People’s Choice Award, and the lowest cost meal will be awarded the Spirit Award. Guests will enjoy a sample from each chef team, no crowds or waiting in line, and “front row” access to the action. Jason Fitz, host of Spain and Fitz on ESPN Radio, is returning as the event’s emcee.
