Youth participating in the Martha O'Bryan Center's Thrive academic enrichment program have been working hard on a special performance showcase for Black History Month. The free performance, called "Yes We Can ... Yes We Will" will feature singing, poetry and African drum/dance. The showcase will last from 6-7 p.m. Monday, February 21. Secor, fresh from a four-date tour through three states, brought fiddles, a banjo, a box of harmonicas and a Jew's harp to show the students. Secor taught them about the history and importance of the instruments in American culture.He also demonstrated how to play the instruments, which led to a hand-clapping, foot-stomping good time. In Cayce, brown is the color of winter. Buildings, grass and leaves are brown and the community is dark at 5:00.
